Actor’s Anti-SLAAP

A California appeals court upheld the denial of Shia LaBeouf’s anti-SLAPP motion in a case relating to an altercation he had with a bartender who refused to serve the actor and his companion alcohol. LaBeouf called the bartender a “racist” and video footage of the incident was posted on the internet and broadcast on TMZ. The bartender sued for assault and slander.

The Ninth Circuit ruled that singer Steve Perry’s right-of-publicity claims against musician Phil Brown should be remanded for a hearing on Perry’s request for a preliminary injunction. The former Journey lead singer claims Brown falsely implied Perry was a part of his band and threatened to release old vocal performances, even though Perry owns the intellectual property rights.

Johnny Depp Ordered to Hand Over Medical Records to Ex-Wife

Johnny Depp’s lawyers describe the actor as upfront about his past substance abuse, a man with nothing to hide. That may be more true than ever after a Virginia judge ruled Friday that he must give his ex-wife’s attorneys access to medical records related to his alcohol and drug use.
