EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A 26-year-old woman claims the Hope Clinic for Women switched doctors on her without her consent, and the doctor who ended up doing her abortion botched it, causing her "disability, disfigurement and loss of a normal life."
Brandy Hildreth claims in Madison County Court that she went to the clinic for an abortion on Feb. 8 and executed a written consent to have the abortion done by a "Dr. Palmer," but later found out that Dr. Lisa Memmel, a second-year fellow at the clinic, performed the procedure.
Since Hildreth did not consent to Memmel's performing the abortion, she claims Memmel committed medical battery resulting in physical injuries, emotional harm, disability, disfigurement and loss of a normal life. Memmel is named as a respondent in discovery. Represented by Rhonda Fiss of Belleville, Ill., Hildreth seeks more than $50,000 in damages.
