HOUSTON (CN) - New seats await the Houston City Council after the U.S. Census Bureau raised its 2010 population count by three-hundredths of a percent to more than 2.1 million.
The agency adjusted the city's 2010 population from 2,099,451 to 2,100,263, a difference of 812, the Houston Chronicle reported.
But the 2.1 million mark was a milestone that enabled Houston to add two City Council seats, the paper reported.
City officials protested the original count claiming the Census Bureau did not use the correct boundaries.
After reviewing the records, the agency agreed and contacted the city last week, the Chronicle reported.
