ST. LOUIS (CN) - The St. Louis Police Officers' Association seeks an injunction to stop the Police Department from forcing officers to reveal their sources. The union says law enforcement will suffer if officers can't promise anonymity to informants, but two officers were ordered to identity confidential informants or face discipline and possible termination.
The officers' union claims more cops can expect to be put in the same position and that requiring them to disclose their sources violates Police Department rules, policies, customs and practices.
The officers' association asked the City Court to prohibit the department from requiring officers to reveal their sources and from disciplining any officer for refusing to reveal sources. It is represented by C. John Pleban.
Named as defendants are the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, The Board of Police Commissioners of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Chief Daniel Isom, Lt. Col. Reggie Harris, Capt. John Hayden and five members of the board of police commissioners.
