WASHINGTON (CN) - President Barack Obama has ordered executive departments and agencies to change the way they recruit and hire government employees, to get the most talented people.
Obama requests that the application process follow common sense, with agencies selecting high-quality candidates efficiently and quickly.
He wants essay questions eliminated from the initial applications, and asks that people be able "to apply for federal employment by submitting resumes and cover letters or completing simple, plain language applications." Agencies are to "assess applicants using valid, reliable tools."
The President also wants to do away with an approach in which managers may select only from among the three highest scoring applicants.
