JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (CN) - A former Missouri lawmaker has been charged with committing Social Security fraud during his days in the Legislature.
Ray Salva was charged with receiving about $60,000 in disability payments to which he was not entitled. Salva, a Democrat, represented Sugar Creek, a Kansas City suburb, from January 2003 through December 2010.
The indictment claims that Salva began receiving disability in February 2000 after suffering a neck injury in a farm accident, but failed to report his new employment as a state legislator when he completed a form in May 2003 stating that he was still unable to work due to his disability.
