Escort Claims Rogue Cop Raped Her

NEW ORLEANS (CN) – A woman arrived at an escort gig only to be placed under arrest for prostitution and raped by a cop in the bed of a truck, she claims in court.
In a Sept. 18 lawsuit in Baton Rouge Federal Court, Felicia Smith says that on Sept. 20, 2014, a man answered her ad for escort services and invited her to his home in Hammond, La.
But when she arrived, she found defendant former Amite Police Officer Grant Carruth, who she says “may be charitably described as a rogue cop” and had allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman just five months before without reprisal from the police force.
She says Carruth flashed his Amite Police Officer badge, said he an undercover narcotic officer, and placed her under arrest for prostitution.
Smith was instructed to place her phone on the top of his car and put her hands behind her back to be handcuffed. She says she complied, was handcuffed, and placed in the back of Carruth’s patrol car. She was read her Miranda rights and told her she was being transported to booking, processing and arraignment.
But this wasn’t the case, she said.
Instead, she claims, Carruth drove her to a remote private drive in a wooded area, parked the car, and at gunpoint forced plaintiff into the bed of his truck. Then Carruth “proceeded to forcibly rip plaintiff Smith’s clothing, sexually assaulted and ultimately raped” Smith, the lawsuit says.
After the rape of plaintiff Carruth was “belatedly fired” from the police force for misconduct. and was indicted by the grand jury of Tangipahoa Parish and charged with aggressive rape, two counts of second degree kidnapping, armed robbery and sexual battery, the lawsuit says. He is currently awaiting trial.
Smith seeks damages, including punitive damages, attorney and medical fees, for kidnapping and rape.
Named defendants are former officer Grant Carruth, Town of Amite City, Amite City Police Department and Chief of Police for the Amite City Police Department, Jerry Trabona.
She is represented by Anne Marie Muller of Baton Rouge.
