Broadcast Ban

The Fourth Circuit revived a suit alleging that a Maryland statute that prohibits the broadcasting of official court recordings of state criminal proceedings violates the First Amendment. The circuit court ruled the ban is subject to strict scrutiny.

RICHMOND, Va. — The Fourth Circuit revived a suit alleging that a Maryland statute that prohibits the broadcasting of official court recordings of state criminal proceedings violates the First Amendment. The circuit court ruled the ban is subject to strict scrutiny.
