CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - Hundreds of people were evacuated from high-rise buildings after a bomb exploded here Thursday morning. Police said John Gillis, 69, a senior attorney with Armstrong Teasdale, was the only person injured. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Clayton Police Chief Thomas Byrne said an "incendiary device" exploded at 11:05 a.m. in a parking garage between buildings. Byrne said Gillis picked up a package next to his car and it exploded.
Byrne declined to comment on whether Gillis was the intended target, though the bomb was placed next to his car in an assigned space.
The blast occurred in an area surrounded by a 16-story office building and condominiums, about three blocks east of the St. Louis County courts. Gillis lives in the condominiums, police said.
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the FBI were called to assist.
