Air Traffic Errors Not on|Retirement Waiver Form

WASHINGTON (CN) - Air traffic controllers no longer will have to certify that they have not made traffic control errors in the last five years, when requesting a waiver of mandatory retirement, if a proposed Federal Aviation Administration rule goes into effect. The change is because the information no longer can be verified, according to the agency.

In the proposed rule, the FAA states that current air traffic orders "foster a safety culture that encourages full and open reporting of safety information and focuses on determining why events occur, rather than placing blame." So, the agency continues, information on individuals who may have made air traffic control errors is not in the records, dating back to last July, when the orders were issued.

The FAA will take public comments on this proposed rule until July 2.
