ATLANTA — The 11th Circuit ruled that a private probation company violated due process by extending the duration of Alabama probationers' sentences, increasing fines, and imposing additional conditions.
The company earned a fee for every month a misdemeanor offender remained under its supervision, and its financial interest in maximizing the length of prisoners’ probation is unconstitutional.
