MEMPHIS (CN) - AT&T hired a sexual predator as a service tech and he sexually assaulted a woman in her home three years after he sexually assaulted another AT&T customer, the woman claims in court.
Aisha Garner sued Bell South Telecommunications, AT&T, AT&T U-Verse and Darren Towns in Shelby County Circuit Court. She claims Towns sexually assaulted her in her home in January 2013.
Towns was working for AT&T as an Internet repair and installation tech when he entered Garner's home for a service upgrade "and sexually assaulted plaintiff, and did so in the presence of her minor child," she says in the lawsuit.
She claims that Towns "had a prior extensive felony conviction [sic] in Louisiana preceding his employment with AT&T."
The complaint continues: "Furthermore, defendant Darren Towns, while in scope of his employment, sexually assaulted another AT&T customer approximately three years prior to the assault of plaintiff."
She claims that the defendants knew that Towns "had a history as a sexual predator during the course and scope of his employment."
Garner seeks $1.5 million in damages for negligent hiring, retention and supervision, assault and battery, false imprisonment and infliction of emotional distress.
