Water Boards Sue California over Smelt

SACRAMENTO (CN) – State Water Contractors sued the California Department of Fish and Game for its rules to limit water extraction from the San Joaquin Delta to protect the longfin smelt. The plaintiffs – 27 public agencies – say the rules will hurt the 25 million California the contractors serve, and hurt farming on 750,000 acres of the state’s most fertile farmland.
