Virginia Man Indicted |for Islamic State Support

(CN) – A Woodbridge, Virginia man has been indicted on charges of conspiring to provide material support to Islamic State terrorists.
In an indictment handed down late Thursday afternoon, a federal grand jury said Mahmoud Amin Mohamed Elhassan, 26, aided and abetted the provision of material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and lied to the FBI to cover up his activities.
As recounted in the indictment, from about Aug. 1, 2015 until Jan. 15, 2016, Elhassan unlawfully and knowingly conspired with another individual, Joseph Hassan Farrokh, to provide support or resources to the Islamic State, and that on Jan. 15, 2015, he drove Farrokh to the Richmond International Airport in Virginia so he could fly overseas to join terrorist group.
The indictment says Elhassan also introduced Farrokh to an individual he believed could facilitate his friend’s travel overseas, and then lied to the FBI about Farrokh’s travel in order to hinder a government investigation.
If convicted, Elhassan faces a maximum sentence of 48 years in prison.
