WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to offer medical care to veterans headed from jail or prison to transitional housing, to keep them from becoming homeless, according to a proposed rule.
The VA's goal is to provide continuity of care for this population, which is particularly at risk of not receiving adequate care of acute or chronic medical or psychiatric problems. When mental health issues are not addressed during the transitional period, many of the veterans become incapable of finding or maintaining appropriate housing, according to the rule.
