DETROIT - A Nigerian man this morning pleaded guilty to trying to blow up a plane for al-Qaida with a bomb in his underwear. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab made the surprise plea on the second day of his trial.
Abdulmutallab, 25, pleaded guilty to all eight charges, saying he was trying to retaliate for the killing of Muslims around the world.
He was arrested on Christmas day in 2009 after passengers jumped him when his smoking underwear bomb failed.
Abdulmutallab allegedly told the FBI he was working for al-Qaida leader Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen who was killed recently by a U.S. drone attack in Yemen.
