WASHINGTON (CN) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has waived public hearings and is issuing emergency permits for rescue operations working to save several endangered turtle species suffering oil contamination from Deep Water Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The permits allow rescuers to take and retain for more than 45 days the Kemp's Ridley, hawksbill, leatherback, green, loggerhead, and olive Ridley sea turtles for veterinary treatment, or euthanasia for animals considered unlikely to survive.
