CHICAGO (CN) - Two transsexuals who now are women sued the State Registrar of Vital Records for refusing to change the gender on their birth certificates. They claim this is a customary courtesy, and that failure to do so could hurt or embarrass them if people who don't like transsexuals find out they had the surgery.
They claim the only reason defendant Dr. Damon Arnold, the registrar, refused to change the records is because their surgeries were performed by a doctor licensed in another country.
They are represented by the ACLU in Cook County Court.
