Toxic Waste

WASHINGTON (CN) - Arsenic, lead, and mercury still top the list of substances found in Superfund toxic waste sites that pose the most significant threats to human health.

The Health Department's Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry has released the revised Priority List of Hazardous Substances commonly found in toxic waste sites prioritized for cleanup. An algorithm consisting of Frequency of occurrence at Superfund sites; Toxicity; and Potential for human exposure orders the substances on the list.
