Tony Alamo Redux

(CN) - The 8th Circuit vacated and replaced its Aug. 28 ruling slashing the punitive damages evangelist Tony Alamo must pay for ordering the beating of two boys in his religious sect.

The substitute ruling does not substantially alter the earlier ruling, which upheld a $3 million compensatory damage award to each victim and cut their punitive damages from $30 million to $12 million each.

Alamo is serving 175 years in prison for taking young girls across state lines for sex, a conviction the 8th Circuit upheld in December 2010.
