Three dead in Las Vegas law firm shooting

Officials are probing motives in Monday's shooting at a law firm and confirmed the suspected shooter is among the three dead.

LAS VEGAS (CN) — An individual opened fire during a deposition at the Prince Law Group in Las Vegas on Monday morning, resulting in three fatalities.

Dennis Prince, a Las Vegas attorney, and an unidentified woman were killed in the shooting. The shooter also took his own life inside Prince’s Summerlin office, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The incident unfolded in the law firm located in the 10800 block of Charleston Boulevard, across Interstate 15 from Red Rock Casino and about 15 miles northeast of the Las Vegas Strip.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, led by Sheriff Kevin McMahill, alongside the Clark County Fire Department, under Fire Chief John Steinbeck spoke at press conference following the shooting.

McMahill provided details of the events, confirming the deaths and reassured the community of no ongoing danger.

"We believe the suspect is deceased. We have two deceased victims on scene, and there is no further threat to the community," McMahill said. The sheriff also emphasized his department's commitment to uncovering the motive behind the act, acknowledging the early stages of the investigation and the intention to provide updates as available.

Questions regarding the relationship between the assailant and the victims, their identities, and whether the shooter encountered police were approached with caution.

McMahill said, "We have a theory at this point, but I cannot release any information until it is confirmed," highlighting the ongoing investigative efforts.

Steinbeck, the fire chief, talked of a swift response on Monday, noting the significant resources allocated for victim services and assistance to evacuees.

He commended the collaboration between fire and police units and recognized the community's resilience in facing tragedy.

"Every single situation we encounter offers us knowledge to improve our response for the next one," he said, stressing the importance of continuous improvement in emergency protocols.

Prince, a senior partner with a significant trial record, had partnered with Robert Eglet at Eglet Prince, focusing on negligence and defective product cases, according to his biography. Prince, who was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1993, led over ninety cases to verdict, earning numerous awards.

The shooting at the law firm comes five months after the deadly shooting at the University of Las Vegas Nevada last December involving 67-year-old Anthony Polito, a former business professor from North Carolina, whose applications to teach at the school had been rejected. Polito killed three people that day.
