LAS VEGAS (CN) - The Venetian runs a crooked game, Jarek Markowiak claims in Clark County Court. Markowiak claims The Venetian, its vice president of marketing Howie Weiner, and its corporate parent Las Vegas Sands dishonestly kicked him out of a multi-round baccarat tournament to stack the deck in favor of "a favored guest of its marketing department."
Markowiak claims the Venetian "has a history of rigging contests for favored participants, and has been fined and punished for such activity in the past." Markowiak says he finished second in the first of three rounds of the "Lotus Baccarat Events," whose winner is determined by total points earned in three rounds. Markowiak says he qualified for the tournament by "six hours of rated play," averaging $2,316 per bet, during which he lost $22,700 - pure profit for the defendants. When he finished second in the first round, he says, Weiner declared he could not play anymore. He demands punitive damages for fraud - and he wants his $22,700 back.
