That’s No Way|to Get Out of Work

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CN) – A man who called in a bomb threat to his job site so he could get off work early faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
Steve M. Gutierrez III, 40, pleaded guilty Monday to threatening to damage a structure with explosives.
“Gutierrez, of San Antonio, admitted he called in a threat to the general contractor for the new U.S. Coast Guard facility under construction at the Corpus Christi International Airport at 7:12 a.m. on July 25, 2014,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
“During the call, he warned the contractor to ‘be expecting two bombs to go off.’ As a result of threat, workers were evacuated from the site and law enforcement responded.”
Police tracked the phone number to Gutierrez.
Gutierrez told officers “he had made the bomb threat in order to be dismissed early from work,” prosecutors said.
U.S. District Judge John Rainey let Gutierrez out on bond until his Dec. 15 sentencing.
