RALEIGH, N.C. (CN) - The EEOC sued Butterball, the nation's biggest turkey producer, claiming that when an HIV-positive worker complained of harassment, and that one harasser "had threatened to shoot her," the company fired the HIV-positive woman, accusing her of "causing a disruption" in the workplace.
The EEOC says the threatened worker was a good employee, and Butterball acknowledged it.
Uncle Sam demands that Butterball make the fired woman whole, with back pay and other relief, and wants it ordered to improve, or establish, anti-discrimination policies.
