HOUSTON – A former student’s Title IX claim against a Katy, Texas, school district relating to the sexual relationship she had with a male teacher may continue, a federal court in the state ruled, finding there are questions pertaining to the district’s knowledge of the teacher’s prior inappropriate relationships with students.
The court does dismiss the student’s claims for punitive damages, which are not available under Title IX.
