Sorry, No Black Workers Allowed Here

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CN) – A federal contractor in Wisconsin rejected 251 black applicants but hired white men with criminal records, no driver’s licenses and incomplete applications, the Department of Labor said Monday.
United Mailing Services, of Brookfield, got more than $3.6 million in federal money while it was doing this, to process mail for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Brookfield, in Waukesha County, is just west of Milwaukee.
The company promised to hire 23 black applicants it turned away, and pay $120,000 plus interest to the 251 black applicants it rejected, the Labor Department said.
The company did not have to admit that it did anything wrong, though the Office of Federal Contract Compliance found it violated federal employment law.
