Sheriff Jails People Illegally To Build Support For A New Jail, Class Action Complains

CINCINNATI (CN) – The Hamilton County Sheriff is conducting a campaign of “propaganda and harassment … to artificially inflate the number of individuals being detained in Hamilton County through the use of bond revocation procedures,” because he’s seeking tax dollars to build a new jail, according to a federal class-action complaint. Plaintiffs say Sheriff Simon Leis’ pretrial program unconstitutionally uses electric monitoring devices, random searches, drug tests and improper bond revocation and incarcerations.
