Sexual Assault

ST. LOUIS – The Eighth Circuit ruled that a sheriff has qualified immunity in a suit brought by a woman who claims her civil rights were violated when she was sexually assaulted by a deputy officer who pressed her for nearly an hour about “what she was willing to do to keep her boyfriend out of jail.”

The circuit court found that the sheriff could not have predicted that he needed to more closely supervise his deputies or that they might sexually assault a member of the public.
