(CN) - A day care center agreed to pay $1.57 million to the school crossing guard who was hit by the mirror of a passing school bus, lawyers revealed.
At the time of the Nov. 29, 2011, accident, Dale Strzyz was a community service officer directing traffic for the Grayslake Village Police Department.
While directing traffic on Route 120 in front of Prairieview School in Hainesville, 46-year-old Strzyz was allegedly wearing a yellow traffic safety vest and her squad car was parked on the painted median with emergency lights activated.
Her lawyers at Corboy & Demetrio say Strzyz was also holding a flashlight with an orange cone attached.
La Petite Academy owned the bus whose mirror hit Strzyz's head.
The accident allegedly caused Strzyz to fall forward and hit her head on the pavement, leaving her with a concussion, facial fractures and a left wrist fracture.
She sued the La Petite Academy, driver Mary Moore and Learning Care Group in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court.
Judge Thomas Schippers in Lake County dismissed the case earlier this month.
Chicago-based Corboy & Demetrio revealed Thursday that La Petite Academy has agreed to pay their client $1.57 million.
Post-concussive symptoms will prevent Strzyz from again returning to this kind of active line of work, Corboy & Demetrio attorney Michelle Kohut said in a statement.
