Randy Quaid Wants|His Passport Back

WASHINGTON (CN) - Actor Randy Quaid and his wife sued the State Department on Monday, demanding their passports back and claiming they are stranded in Canada without them.

Quaid claims in Federal Court that the State Department revoked his and his wife's passports on Dec. 12, 2013. Quaid was in Canada to accept an award for acting in a film shot in Canada.

The Quaids claim that their passports "were taken from them by the defendants by form letter from the Washington State Department."

The defendants are Secretary of State John Kerry and the Department of State.

Quaid claims that he and his wife are "in a foreign country" and "unable to identify themselves as American citizens."

The Quaids do not say in the lawsuit why their passports were revoked.

Newspaper reports carry conflicting stories, including a dispute over a hotel bill and a request for political asylum in Canada alleging fear from "Hollywood star whackers."

The Quaids want their passports back.

They are represented by Dirk McClanahan, of Vienna, Va.
