PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CN) - Rhode Island's attorney general has stepped up for press access, suing the state's Department of Business Regulations for failing to timely respond to Scripps News' request for public records.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin sued the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulations on July 11, in Superior Court.
Kilmartin claims the Department of Business Regulations (DBR) did not respond to a July 10, 2013 Access to Public Records Act request from Scripps News.
The DBR had 10 business days to respond, a timeline it "recklessly violated," the attorney general says.
He wants the DBR fined, and ordered to pay court costs.
