Princeton Review Posted Private Info of 108,000 Students, Class Claims

TAMPA (CN) - The Princeton Review posted online the standardized test scores of 108,000 students, including their Social Security numbers, birthdays and learning disabilities, a class action claims in Federal Court.

The New York Times pointed out the security breach in an Aug. 18 article.

The Times reported that the Review posted the information about 34,000 minor students in Sarasota, Fla., and 74,000 students in Fairfax, Va., and left the information on the Internet for seven weeks.

Plaintiffs say the Review negligently failed to take simple steps to protect the information, such as protecting it with passwords or encrypting it.

Plaintiffs want damages for breach of contract and negligence, including ID theft insurance for their children. They are represented by William Partridge of Sarasota.
