Predicting Recidivism

     MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld a sentencing that relied on a risk-assessment tool, which studies have found is far more likely to judge that black defendants are at a higher risk of recidivism, while “white defendants were more likely than black defendants to be incorrectly flagged as low risk.”
     COMPAS is short for Correctional Offender Management Profiling for Alternative Sanctions. The defendant to this July 13 ruling is Eric Loomis.
