LOS ANGELES (CN) - A 26-year-old man from Oxnard was sentenced Monday to 24 1/2 years in federal prison for kidnapping his former girlfriend, driving her to Mexico and threatening to kill her.
A federal jury convicted Rudy Soto in July 2012 of conspiring to kidnap and kidnapping his ex on Sept. 14, 2010.
"When the victim refused to accompany him, Soto carried and dragged the victim, who was screaming and kicking him, to a waiting truck that was being driven by co-defendant Erin Nicole Fisher, 22," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement. "Soto, using the weight of his body, pinned the victim to the front passenger seat while Fisher drove the vehicle to Mexico."
Fisher is being prosecuted separately and is in a court-ordered diversion program, prosecutors said.
Soto told his ex during the drive that he was taking her to Mexico to kill her. He also called her family and told them the same thing, the U.S. attorney said.
Mexican officials stopped the pickup truck at the border and arrested all three occupants when the victim screamed for help.
