FORT WORTH (CN) - Tarrant County courts and offices were closed Monday in observance of Cesar Chavez Day, though other North Texas jurisdictions will not commemorate the holiday this year.
Chavez founded the United Farm Workers labor union and became a leading national spokesman for Latinos. His birthday is March 31.
Dallas, Denton and Collin County offices and courts will operate normally this week with no acknowledgement of the holiday on their schedules.
Federal offices and courts will remain open as well, with no acknowledgement of the holiday on the website of the U.S Office of Personnel Management.
Texas recognizes the holiday, but due to its falling on a weekend this year, state offices and courts will be closed anyway.
