Nightclub Sued for|VMA Party Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A woman who says she was shot at a Video Music Awards party for R&B singer Chris Brown has sued the club that hosted the event.

Megan Hawkins sued West Hollywood nightclub 1OAK in Superior Court on Tuesday, alleging negligence and premises liability in the Aug. 24, 2014 shooting.

Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight was shot six times at the event promoting the release of Brown's sixth studio album, "X."

Hawkins claims that 1OAK failed to provide proper security or screening and could have prevented the shootings had it barred gang members at the door.

She also claims that the club did nothing to alert LAPD officers stationed outside that Knight and his entourage would attend, and pushed their way inside.

"As a result of the negligence of the defendants, and each of them, one or more of those admitted to the event on the defendants' property were allowed to bring ?rearms into the event. As a foreseeable result, shots were ?red in an apparent attempt to assassinate Knight, by those admitted into the event as a result of the negligence of defendants and each of them, and the plaintiff was shot and seriously injured," the complaint states.

Hawkins is represented by Donnie Cox of Oceanside.

The club did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
