Musicians Union Sues ‘American Idol’

LOS ANGELES (CN) – “American Idol” is violating its contract with the American Federation of Musicians, the union claims in Federal Court. American Idol promised to use only live music on its shows, but it remastered the 2003 season and is selling it as the second season of “American Idol Rewind,” without paying the musicians the money owed, the union says.

The union claims American Idol Productions and its wholly owned distributor, Tick Tock Productions, owe the musicians 75% of scale for the remastered show, plus 10% to the union’s pension fund, and have refused to pay it.
The musicians are represented by Hirsch Adell with Reich, Adell & Cvitan.
