CLEVELAND (CN) - A mother claims the Cleveland Metropolitan School District hired a felon through the Amer-I-Can Foundation, and he raped her 8th-grade daughter and paid for her abortion. The mother claims Jamil McDonald raped her daughter while working as her "counselor" at Washington Carver Elementary School.
Jane Doe and her mother sued the school board and its members, school administrators and the nonprofit foundation, whose "sole purpose is the rehabilitation of ex-inmates," according to the complaint in Cuyahoga County Court.
The Does say school authorities and the foundation "allowed convicted felons to interact with students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District classrooms," including Jamil McDonald.
The mother claims the school district negligently and recklessly allowed McDonald to cultivate a relationship with her daughter, which culminated in his "raping and assaulting" the 14-year old girl, causing her to "suffer severe and permanent injuries."
"The relationship between McDonald and the plaintiff developed during school and was actively promoted by the defendants. As a result of being raped, the plaintiff became pregnant and the defendant, McDonald, paid for an abortion at an abortion clinic," according to the complaint.
The mother and daughter seek punitive damages. They are represented by William Carlin of Pepper Pike, Ohio.
