Microsoft Wins Standards Designation

Microsoft won an international standards designation for its open-office document format, "Microsoft Office Open XML," fighting off rival claims from IBM and Sun Microsystems, which sought the designation for their "Open Document Format." The Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization on Tuesday approved the designation, which is expected to boost Microsoft sales to governments and large companies, The New York Times reported today.
