Mexico Extradites |Accused Dealer & Killer

(CN) - Mexico has extradited to the United States a man accused of drug trafficking and the second-degree murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Jesus Navarro-Montes is accused of killing Border Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar on Jan. 19, 2008, by running him down with a Hummer in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area.

The superseding indictment also accuses Navarro of possessing with intent to distribute 980 lbs. of marijuana.

If convicted, Navarro faces up to 40 years in prison on the drug charge and up to life in prison for murder.

Mexico officially has no death penalty and generally will not extradite a citizen without assurances that capital punishment will not be sought.
