WASHINGTON (CN) - The National Marine Fisheries Service has issued its proposed List of Fisheries for 2010, which categorizes commercial fisheries based on the level of serious injury and death of marine mammals incidental to each fishery.
Fisheries listed in category I have annual mortality and serious injury at a rate of more than 50 percent of the normal biological mortality of the fishery. Each of the three categories requires fishery permit holders to conform to escalating levels of scrutiny from the Fisheries Service including using log books, vessel monitors and on-board observers.
