Man Trapped In Tire-Shredding Machine

CINCINNATI (CN) - A temporary laborer was trapped inside a tire-shredding machine for 50 minutes, during which it amputated an arm, broke a leg, degloved the skin on his left side from shoulder to knee, and inflicted other injuries from which he died after 52 days of agony, his survivors say.

The estate of Scott D. Johnson, who died at 56, sued the labor contractor, The Labor Company; the maker of the machine, Columbus McKinnon Corp.; and the employer, Rumpke of Ohio.

Represented in Federal Court by Hedges & Yauch of Trenton, Ohio, the family demands punitive damages.
