RICHMOND (CN) - Richmond’s John Marshall Courts Building closed its doors early Wednesday after a man took his own life on the courthouse steps.
According to Richmond Police, the department received a call of a disturbance shortly after 11:15 AM. After arriving on the scene, several eyewitnesses told detectives a man had been shot and the gunshot was self-inflicted.
No one else had been threatened or injured.
Courts were in session when the incident occurred and local reports said those inside the courthouse were ushered out a side entrance to avoid the scene.
Sheriff's officers who stood guard around the taped-off stairwell at 400 N. 9th street refused to comment.
