Law Firm Sues Songwriter for $642,600

LOS ANGELES (CN) - "My Boyfriend's Back" songwriter-producer Jerry Goldstein owes the Glaser Weil law firm $642,600 in legal fees, the attorneys claim in court.

Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard Avchen & Shapiro sued Goldstein in Superior Court.

In addition to co-author credit for the 1963 song "My Boyfriend's Back," Goldstein managed Sly and the Family Stone, and wrote and produced songs for the group War.

Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs claims it agreed in 2009 to provide Goldstein with legal services, and that on June 3 this year, Goldstein entered an "engagement agreement" promising to pay the law firm $623,541.39. Goldstein agreed to pay $400,000 by July 31, and if he did so, the law firm would waive the rest of it, according to the complaint.

But he didn't, the attorneys say. He owes it $642,612 as of Aug. 31, and interest is accumulating at 12 percent a year, according to the lawsuit.

The 8-page lawsuit does not state the nature of the work the law firm did, nor is it apparent from the 31 pages of correspondence attached to the complaint.

Glaser Weil is represented by Greg Ozhekim, of Woodland Hills.
