L-3 Blamed For Chopper Crash|That Killed 14 U.S. Soldiers In Iraq

CORPUS CHRISTI (CN) - Fourteen U.S. servicemen died in a Blackhawk helicopter crash near Kirkuk, Iraq, on Aug. 22, 2007 because L-3 Communications Vertex Aerospace mechanics negligently left a wire spool in the engine, and it gouged the driveshaft, causing the fatal crash, the servicemen's families claim in Federal Court.

Plaintiffs claim the incompetent or negligent work was done during a Phased Maintenance Inspection-1, conducted by L-3. They demand punitive damages for wrongful death, pain and suffering and other injuries. Plaintiffs' lead counsel is Whitehurst, Harkness, Ozmun & Brees of Austin.
