Judicial Candidate Sues Paper

LAS VEGAS (CN) - A candidate for family court judge claims he lost an election because the Las Vegas Review-Journal defamed him by reporting that he owed child support to his ex-wife. Robert Lueck concedes he owed "a very small amount of money" due to the "irrational intransigence of his ex-wife."

But he says he made up the amounts due before the election. He claims that because he was out of office when he got behind on payments, he was a private figure then.

Lueck was a family court judge from 1999 to 2004. He ran for a newly created family court judgeship in 2006. He claims the Review-Journal and its reporter Ed Vogel defamed him in an Oct. 26, 2006 story about his child support, and in a follow-up story on Oct. 28.

Lueck sued pro se in Clark County Court.
