JP Gets 18 Months in Prison

DALLAS (CN) - A former Culberson County justice of the peace was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for stealing traffic fines. Oscar Espinoza Sr. also must pay more than $90,000 in restitution.

Espinoza pleaded guilty in August to one count of mail fraud. He admitted that he cashed checks and money orders meant for traffic fines and spent the money on himself from 2007 to 2009. The seat of Culbertson County in West Texas is Van Horn.
