LOS ANGELES (CN) - A class action claims that Healthmarkets and The Mega Life and Health Insurance Co. surreptitiously record hundreds of telephone calls a day while investigating claims, in violation of state privacy and wiretap laws.
Named plaintiff Jerry Hopkins says the surreptitious recordings were revealed in discovery in a legal dispute involving his wife's cancer.
The defendants market and underwrite insurance and manage and adjust claims.
Hopkins wants punitive damages and an injunction. He is represented by Paul Kiesel.
