Inquirer Dinged for “Fuel Charge” on Subscriptions

CAMDEN, N.J. (CN) - The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News bumped costs to prepaid subscribers by imposing a 6-cent per day "fuel surcharge" on them (12 cents on Sunday), effectively shortening a 6-month subscription by 3 weeks, violating their contract with subscribers, says a class action claims in Federal Court.

Named plaintiff Richard Holmes seems especially furious because the newspaper did not roll back the "fuel surcharge" after gas prices dropped by more than 50 percent.

Plaintiffs are represented by Christine Ford with Meiselman, Denlea & Packman of White Plains, N.Y.
