DALLAS (CN) - Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams has sued his ex-girlfriend, a former Miss Texas USA, for the engagement ring she kept after she rejected his marriage proposal.
Williams claims that former Miss Texas USA Brooke Daniels asked him for $5,000 for her school and dental bills. "I sent the funds to her - along with a baseball for her brother - in an overnight package," Williams said, according to the Odessa American, which cited an affidavit Williams filed in Ector County Court. "As a surprise, I also recorded a marriage proposal and included it and an engagement ring (having an approximate value of $76,600) in the package."
Williams says Daniels declined his proposal and that after he asked for six weeks that she return the ring, Daniels told him she had lost it.
Williams reported the loss to his insurer, which investigated and found the ring in the possession of Daniels' father and co-defendant, Michael Daniels, according to the American.
"I want to wash my hands of it," Michael Daniels told the newspaper. "It's just a hassle. I'll take care of my daughter. I don't need him."
Michael Daniels says Williams did not want the ring back at first.
"He said to her, 'I'm not like a lot of people, I don't want the ring back. You'll eventually come back to me,' and she didn't."
A hearing has been scheduled for Friday afternoon.
